Maluku, Indonesia

Seeking out naturally White South Sea pearls, Oceana ventured to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia where the warm turquoise seas are considered to be the ideal environment for cultivating pearls from the Pinctada Maxima oyster.

In a slow process that takes over two years before a single pearl can be harvested, the Pinctada Maxima requires constant care so that it can thrive in its natural habitat and produce the lustrous white pearls that it is prized for.

Working directly with local pearl farming communities, Oceana primarily sources its White South Sea pearls from two islands of the islands here, Tual and Dobo.
