Tahiti, French Polynesia

The deepest part of the South Pacific is home to Black South Sea pearls. These  remote islands with their pristine sparkling lagoons are known as Tahiti, a name which is also synonymous with the naturally dark pearl derived here by the Pinctada Margeritifera oyster.

The worlds only naturally black pearl, Black South Sea pearls also hold the distinction of having unique secondary colors of red, green and blue.

Oceana partnered with small scale family farms across a number of islands in both the Gambier and Tuamoutu Archipelagos of French Polynesia.
